Just Bamboo Photos

So I was looking through my old garden photos, trying to think of a topic for today's post. There are a few cool insect images from last summer that I haven't shared with you yet, so I started getting those together. Then I realized that I've been doing a lot of insect posts lately. I have to remember that this is a gardening blog, not "let's look at another bug", and even though insects are an important part of a garden, they're not the most important part.

The most important part of any garden is bamboo.

Well, plants. But today it's bamboo specifically.

There's no narrative for today's post. No chronicle of the digging of bamboo, planting, or pruning. Just photos, with a few comments.

Pleioblastus viridistriatus, a vigorous groundcover bamboo.

Hibanobambusa tranquillans, with its big glossy leaves:

These are leaves of Hibanobambusa tranquillans 'Shiroshima':

Sasa veitchii, a low-growing bamboo in the narrow strip between the foundation and the driveway:

Pleioblastus fortunei which has been flowering, but doesn't seem like it's ready to die yet:

Here it is in it's garden setting. That's a small Phyllostachys nigra to the left, and a large Miscanthus grass:

If it's big leaves you want, Indocalamus tessellatus should do it for you:

Finally, Semiarundinaria okuboi has pretty large leaves too, and a great tropical feel:

Have I mentioned that I love growing bamboo? It adds such a presence to the garden.
