I like seeing their tracks in the snow. It lets me know more about what they're doing in my yard when I'm not able to watch (which is nearly all the time).
They must have realized it too, because what you don't see here is that they walked into the front yard up to the sidewalk, then turned around and retraced their steps. I discovered this while shoveling yesterday.
While looking at the tracks on this single-digit morning I thought the almost-full moon through the trees looked pretty nice.
I'm not entirely happy with this shot, but it's a nice alternative to the winter sunrises that usually hold my attention to the other side of the house. I don't think I've ever taken a photo of a "moonset" before, and it's not as easy as I thought it would be.
If it were less cold this morning I would go outside and see where else in my yard the deer are focusing their nibbling -- the tracks are great for that. I'd also like to find out what other animals left tracks in my yard, but the thermometer tells me I'm going to have to settle for these today.
The moon was gorgeous here too last night and I meant to take a picture when I got home from driving kids home (they noticed it) but I got distracted and forgot! And all the tracks we had are being covered up with snow that has moved to the Northeast, and we are expecting those charming single digit temps any day now....no deer here in years but I did just see a hawk (and lots of crows of course that follow it) outside on a tree.
