Yes, it's grey. Overcast, cloudy -- call it what you will, it's still grey to me. We had some nasty storms on Wednesday-- my first day off -- which not only kept me working on projects indoors, but kept me in the basement most of the afternoon. (Click here to see a slideshow of hail images from the storm. There was crazy-big hail in some parts of the city!)
After that excitement, it was just normal rain, from drizzle to brief showers. More grey.
It's been like this for most of the last 2 weeks, although we've had some days of sunshine mixed in there. In fact, yesterday morning was clear and beautiful, but I was in the middle of a project in the house, so I couldn't take advantage of the weather. When I was finally ready to get into the garden it was grey again, and lightly raining.
Chimney swifts are always twittering away overhead. |
Grey, grey, and more grey. Blah.
So although I'm hoping for more sunshine soon, I'll have to look down instead of up, and rely on the brightness of some of the blooms as a substitute:
Missouri evening primrose, Oenothera macrocarpa. |
Mexican petunia cutting, flowering early because it needs more room. |
One of the forgotten amaryllis that started blooming in the garage. |
Beautiful and helping to combat the grey for sure!
It also looks like there may be a break in the clouds forming:
That gives me a little hope about getting something done outside this weekend!
So although the weather has me a little down this morning, it's good to realize that sunshine isn't everything, and there's still beauty to be found in the garden:
I'm still pretty tired of grey.

Sounds like you are very dedicated to your garden, more so than myself. I find myself with my camera much more than actually doing anything with the garden.
ReplyDeleteAlan, I don't mind overcast skies as long as it's not raining. No fun working in the rain. Sorry your staycation didn't quite work out the way you had planned. I hope the weekend will give you decent weather to work outside. I'm off to do some planting myself.
ReplyDeleteLike the previous commenter, I prefer working under overcast skies as well. You wouldn't want to work under the sun if you lived in a tropical country like me. I'm sorry to hear about the hail, though. Definitely no gardening when hail stones are that big (I clicked on your link). Can't imagine possibly getting bonked on the head with that.
ReplyDeleteI also like working under clouds, but it's the wet that's halting my garden chores. Digging in wet clay is a no-no.
ReplyDeleteWeeding is great after a rain, but I only like weeding in small doses.
