More Datura

I posted some shots of this Datura inoxia that is growing in a crack in my driveway before, but it's really worth another look.

It's so large now, has a wonderful form, and the blooms are so crisp and white. Just a quick look...

There are now half a dozen blooms opening each evening, giving me a wonderful view every morning:

The sunlight reflected from the window lights this in an unexpected way.

I really love the way the flowers unfurl.

I saw a honeybee frantically visiting each bloom one morning.

The way the leaves are held stiffly horizontally is my favorite feature.

This may be the best plant I've ever grown in my driveway cracks before. The sunflowers were good, but this may be even better. I'm not sure how long it will keep flowering, but I've been removing the seed pods before they get too far along. I'm not sure if that will do anything to extend the bloom period, but it will definitely reduce the number of seedlings I have next year.

And since this plant is so enjoyable, I don't know if I could bring myself to pull the seedlings next year.

It would probably be a hassle if my entire driveway had these plants growing in the cracks, although that would be an impressive sight!

(I know this is considered to be a weed in some places, but for me it's a beautiful addition to the garden.)

  1. I was given some Datura seeds a few weeks back and they've started germinating. Hope they look as good as yours do.
