The pond was thickly iced just recently, but then warm weather and rain melted it completely, and now it's frozen again. Over the next few days it should melt again, with temps into the 40's F every day this week.
I guess that the storms that came through the other day (after the ice was gone) stirred up all of the submerged leaves, blew them to the side, then froze them into place.
I think it's quite nice. The leaves have a greenish cast to them, which is the algae.
I love the way that bubbles form in ice, even if they're surrounded by algae.
Algae, rotting leaves, ice, dreary lighting...
...but the pond still looks beautiful to me.

Looks good to me as well Alan. Not quite so cold over here in the North east of Scotland at the moment. I truly share your attitude, (its not work its gardening) I will look forward to visits in the future to see how things are going in St Louis.
ReplyDeleteNever running out of photographic subject matter is just one good reason to have a pond like this. I am so looking forward to spring to see you bring this pond to life. I'm expecting frogs and dragon flies and all sorts of beauty around this!
ReplyDeleteMe too Christine, me too. :-)
ReplyDeleteAlistair: welcome!
