I've only had the pond for a month or two, but it's already surprising me.
I didn't expect much to be happening until the spring when I start planting, the toads and frogs start using the pond (hopefully), and things warm up. But I've been surprised in several ways even now.
First: algae.
I know we've been having a mild winter so far, but I didn't expect to see any algae until next year.
Second: deer love the pond.
Why does it appear that they're walking across it? I only see footprints leading in one direction.
Third: there are always little insects on the water's surface:
I need to get some of these under the microscope to see what they are.
Fourth: it's impossible to keep all of the leaves out of the water:
Finally, I never realized how beautiful a small sheet of water could be.
It mirrors the sky and surrounding trees so well, it's one of my favorite things to look at in the garden right now.
I really can't wait to continue working on this in the spring!
.
Yay, a pond post! Maybe the deer bound away?
ReplyDeleteI like it, too. In fact, I wish it was in *my garden* :-).
ReplyDeleteI agree with Gerhard - I wish this was in my garden!! I love your pond so much - even unplanted it is stunning - those reflections, the leaves ... just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I love ponds, but the way yours reflects the trees is lovely. I bet if you watch carefully, you'll be able to catch that deer drinking out of it!
ReplyDeletewhen you will put plantzs inn fore first few weeks you will have a lot of alge but when balance in wather will take his role, wather will be as clean as crystal.
ReplyDeleteWow! I was thinking "I hope Alan does a pond post soon" and look! Pond post! Yay! Water adds a whole new element to the garden, in every season. Maybe you'll catch those deer in the act one of these days!
