Garden Bloggers Bloom Day is a meme brought to you by Carol at May Dreams Gardens. Each month on the 15th, garden bloggers from all over the world show you what's blooming in their gardens right now.
For me, the bloom choices are minimal. Since I removed the Forsythia this weekend I no longer have that source of flowers (they are blooming in the common ground now), but I do have a few.
Many of the bulbs I planted last fall are growing, but only a few of the crocuses are blooming so far:
The daffodils will start soon, and there are grape hyacinth and tulip leaves popping up, so things will start happening soon here in the front of the house.
In the back though, flowers are quite limited -- to weeds.
There's henbit:
This is an early spring weed that I really don't mind too much. It's got beautiful little flowers:
It looks like this patch has fairly attractive reddish stems too. Overall, not a bad-looking "weed"!
The chickweed doesn't seem to be as prevalent this year, but it's still here, with its tiny, tiny flowers:
The last bloomer in my garden right now is bittercress:
Earlier this year I found out that this is an edible plant, and I've been enjoying it in salads and in sandwiches for at least a month already. There's much too much of it to eat though:
What is it with me and large drifts of lawn weeds? The bittercress now, violets and clover coming soon, and in the fall smartweed.
I do need to mow some of these blooms off, or I'll have a bittercress-only lawn next year. I can't eat it all this year, so I certainly don't need even more of this next year! (My neighbor likes to kid me about this. The other evening he saw me pulling handfulls of these plants out of the ground and joked "what are you doing, getting dinner?" Ha ha. Actually, that was pretty funny.)
So that's my blooms for March. If you're in the mood for more, head over to May Dreams Gardens for links to dozens of other bloom posts.

You have made weeds look beautiful. That last photo of the bittercress is magical.
ReplyDeleteHow dare you! ;^)
Your photos of the crocuses are really beautiful!! Had a giggle picturing you "picking dinner" :)
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about going out and 'gathering dinner', but am afraid I'd pick the wrong weed! Your crocus are luminous. Very pretty.
ReplyDeletealoha,
ReplyDeletei love the micro shot studies, thanks for sharing them :)
Those weeds...er, wildflowers...do look good. I have a lot of those wildflowers here, too.
ReplyDeleteJust didn't think to put them in Bloomday.
Oh and, those crocus are really pretty, too.
Happy Bloomday.
It looks like your crocus bulbs are only a couple of days ahead of mine http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/zz246/stevelau1911/DSC07601.jpg?t=1331855865
ReplyDeleteHenbit is very prevalent here.
