Why can't they be predatory instead of herbivores?

They've been particularly attracted to the Canna 'Paton' this year:
Just the one plant though luckily. I've got several pots of this, but they're only going after this one in another part of the yard.
I just have to resign myself to the fact that the roses are going to look terrible for a month or 6 weeks each year.
It is quite satisfying knocking big mating clusters of these shiny pests into the soapy water each morning -- which I have to go do right now.
Enjoy the meal beetles, it might be your last!
.
Alan, those Mirabilis jalapa ( 4 o'clock plants) you acquired are poisonous to japaneese beetles. They will eat the leaves and die, saving you alot of trouble each summer. Bonus points for being prolific self seeding plants in this regard.
ReplyDeleteWow, I've never seen them around here. They are voracious buggers!
ReplyDeleteI think I have the beetles too, I'm not 100% sure but the effects are pretty similar. I'd appreciate your looking at my last post and letting me know if you think they’re the same thing. Someone left me a link for a biological spay, might help you too! Christina
