rain
We finally some relief from the drought. I think this is the first morning this summer that I had to cancel garden plans because of rain!
It started as a very light sprinkle in the morning, and I didn't get excited because this happens every week or so and ends up being nothing. Today though was different, as the rain kept building.
For most of the day this is what I saw in the sky:
That in itself is unusual this summer, as we've had mostly clear skies every day. Overcast? I'd almost forgotten what that looked and felt like.
All of these photos were taken through panes of glass, so they're not crystal clear (infer what you may about the cleanliness of my windows). Gotta love seeing wet plants though!
The rain instantly turned the lawn in the front yard lush and lovely:
Okay, not so much.
Still, everything loved the rain. Even this not-so-little guy who didn't know what to do with himself, and just hopped down the walkway:
It was a steady light rain for most of the morning, but occasionally it came down pretty hard:
I watched splashes on the deck railing for quite a while:
This is my fancy rain gauge:
Yes, a glass jar on the deck table. It told me that we got about an inch (25mm) of rain, maybe a little bit more. Not nearly as much as we need, but enough to soak and soften the ground a bit. Plus it means I won't need to water anything today!
If you're also in need of rain, I hope you get some soon!
.
Ahhh, so my rain dance worked :)
Enjoy.
It's a beautiful thing!
With the rain in my past week, I'm starting to get a lot of new shoots already on some of my blueberry plants. I love seeing those shoots come up like asparagus and get taller than the existing growth on the same season.
Is yours reacting the same way?
So all the rain I have sent off to you Americans have finally reached you then :-) Not all of it though, we still have too much here in London, it is hammering down right now and the Olympics will have yet another wet day....hope you get enough rain to get a good soak!
God heard my prayers. He gave us rain when we badly need it. Miracles do happen.
