It's been such a long time since I've been able to photograph mushrooms... have I even done it this year yet? Hmm, not since March it seems. Crazy.
Mushrooms are the above-ground bloom of soil fungus, and to me indicate that the soil is alive and healthy. Fungi and bacteria in the soil break down organic compounds into the basic nutrients that plants can absorb. They're essential to the garden, and as long as they're not growing on the trees (which usually indicates problems with the tree) I'm happy to have them!
I also like them because they're interesting and beautiful. Except when there's way too many of them.
I believe I've taken photos here of only two species, with most of the variation due to differences in age.
I'm glad to see mushrooms in the yard again!
.
I love taking their photos too! Yours seem to be so plenty and big!
ReplyDeleteWe had more mushrooms this spring than ever before. But from your photos it looks like you have even more!
ReplyDeleteAnd they make such great photo opportunities! Lovely shoots, funnily enough, I haven’t had many mushrooms in my London garden this year, despite all the rain :-)
ReplyDeleteSeeing your photos reminds me why mushrooms are so popular in fairy-land! They look magical :)
