They keep growing

Remember a couple of winters ago when I grew some cactus from seed? You may also remember that I gave all of those seedlings away, as they were not cold-hardy enough for me to grow here. Then last year I started some cold-hardy cactus seed, but didn't tell you about it until the seedlings were bigger.

Then a couple of months ago I repotted the seedlings. Remember all of that? Well, they must really like their new pots because they are growing like crazy!

Not bamboo growth crazy, but "slow and steady, wow look at how big they are now" crazy.

This one is probably my favorite because of its knobbiness:

Anybody have any idea of what species it is yet?

I had no idea they would get so big so quickly, as I thought cactus take years and years to start sizing up. The knobby one is almost as big as a golf ball now. Here are some shots with my fingers to give you a size reference:

That big one is almost 5" (2cm) tall!

These others are and inch and a half tall or so:

Although they're supposedly cold-hardy, I don't want to chance leaving them outdoors yet. I'd like to know what species I have before I try an overwintering experiment.

Having raised these guys from seed, I don't want to see that experiment end badly.

So indoors they'll stay for another winter.

I wonder how big they'll get by spring?
