bark, I like

Remember the other weekend when I moved the mulch pile, all 64 wheelbarrow loads of it? As I got to the bottom of the pile, I started hitting a lot of branches, and a few logs that must have been thrown into the truck at the end of the day.

This log is from a tree that I'm not familiar with, unless it's a sycamore. It's beautiful though!

Okay, I just checked with my wife who grew up in a house with a sycamore in its front yard, and she agrees that's what it probably is.

(I boosted the contrast a bit in these photos)

It's not only the exterior of this small piece of the tree that is attractive -- the interior has something going on too:

I call this photo "ET throws up". Although it also works if you think of it as the Quisp alien.

I love trees that have inner beauty too.

  1. Yes, I agree with your wife that it's probably a sycamore that has shed its bark. When they do, they are beautiful. I drive by one in a park every day that is very tall and the bark near the top of the canopy is bright white. It's stunning in the winter.

  2. I agree, I'd say sycamore as well. Could be a eucalyptus but that is probably not likely in your area. Beautiful bark, no matter what it is.

That is going to entertain me for the whole day.

  4. Wow!! Now that is a beautiful tree! We don't have sycamores here (I don't think so!) I also love unique bark on trees. It looks like my Leopard Tree. I will do a post on it soon.
