Rural Missouri

We visited one of the newest of the Missouri wineries yesterday.

Edg-Clif Farms and Vineyard, located near Potosi, Missouri. I thought you might like a quick view of the rolling hills of rural Missouri.

It's a nice, small winery, quite remote -- producing some of my favorite Missouri wines after only three years of vinting.

These photos show the mix of forests, hills, and pasture typical of much of rural Missouri. Some areas have lots more forest than pasture, but Edg-Clif is on family land that was until 20 years ago a working cattle farm -- so quite a bit of pasture.

It probably wouldn't be as nice in the heat and humidity of early August, but it was wonderful yesterday!

    Wow, so that's Missouri.
Its surprising seeing pictures of the countryside I'm use to looking at MO cities.

What kinds of grapes do they grow?

  3. They grow three kinds: Chambourcin, Vignoles, and Vidal Blanc. As the first vineyard in this part of Missouri, they did extensive testing and got expert advice on what grapes to grow. http://www.missouriwinecountry.com/wines/
