Bright!

The light coming in through the west-facing windows this morning was so bright, I knew that something was different.

It's all of the leaves that the maple has dropped -- they're so bright this morning, almost blinding -- reflecting back into the house. Cheerful, and a nice way to maximize sunlight exposure inside.

It's only temporary though, as I'll probably be raking these up today (if my blood-donating arm can take it), as we're going to have a bitter taste of winter on Tuesday.

Although temperatures are forecast to be in the mid-to-upper 50's F today and a bit warmer tomorrow, Tuesday night it is supposed to plummet to 18ºF (-8ºC).

That means that I've got just a few days to enjoy these leaves and get the rest of the non-hardy plants either dug up or protected. I guess I'll be dragging the last of the pots into the garage soon too.

I'm going to miss the color!

(I hate it when the weather forces me to rush unpleasant garden tasks!)

  1. 18°F! That's quite a dramatic swing. Are you prepared for winter? All plants tucked up snugly inside your garage?

  2. 18! What? I better check the forecast. I'm almost ready, but still - 18?!?

  3. Not quite ready, but mostly so. Our normal low at this time of year is about 40ºF,with dips into the upper or mid-20's F not unusual. Teens is close to record low.
