Cartoon leaves blown, my mind too!

Does anybody else reading this watch The Simpsons regularly? I've been a big fan of the show since its inception, not only for the outright humor but for the ongoing social commentary and unbelievable attention to detail.

Did you happen to see last week's episode, where Homer has a bit of a mid-life crisis and his ordinary, never-rode-on-the-back-of-a-firetruck life weighs heavily on his mind? As he walks forlornly down the street, a few leaves blow across the foreground of the shot. "Wow! Did you see that!" I excitedly said to my wife, grabbing the remote to watch a few more times...

***

"One of those leaves has been visited by a leafcutter bee!"

Here's a closer look:

I am simply amazed. I want to know which writer, director, or animator is the gardener and/or student of nature, and insisted that the detail of this circular cutout be added.

Think about it: This leaf was visible for only 3 seconds out of about 1200. How many people would even notice the leaves, let alone the details of one of them? Somebody made an effort!

So you're not a fan of the show. Answer me this: when have you ever seen a leafcutter bee's work on any show on television, let alone on a "simple cartoon"?

I do wonder why Homer is so sad, being a part of this beauty of a show.

Keep on surprising me Simpsons, and I'll keep watching with my eyes (and mind) open!

  2. Wow, *your* attention to detail is amazing. Yes, I saw that episode (I'm a big fan of the Simposons too) but I missed that.
