Luckily there are actually some blooms to show this month. Everything is a few weeks behind where it has been the past few springs, but there is enough going on to be interesting I think. I tried to be as thorough as possible, but I may have missed one or two things.
I'll start with the daffodils of course.
The lawn violets are starting to take off, weeks before my mower will help deadhead them -- even if I mowed the grass that short, which I don't -- ensuring a zillion more seedlings later and next year.
Other volunteers, dandelion:
Bittercress, which there seems to be much less of this year (due to my efforts last year):
Red deadnettle:
Are there any plants that I actually added to my garden that are blooming now?
Yes, but only a few. The Petasites japonicus blooms are nothing to get too excited about...
I'm not even sure if they produce viable seed. As soon as the huge leaves emerge I forget all about the flowers.
The bleeding hearts (Dicentra) are always so nice early in spring:
And although I think the crocus are all finished, the grape hyacinth (Muscari) are just getting started:
So that's a look at what's in bloom in April 2014 in my garden. For a look at what's flowering in so many other gardens check out May Dreams Gardens, where Carol provides a look at what's in bloom in her own Indiana garden, but also links to over a hundred other garden blogger's posts about their April blooms. If you're like me and waiting for spring to really get started, take a look at gardens in warmer parts of the country and world.

Lovely bloom pictures! Happy Gardening
ReplyDeleteThe daffodils are beautiful - mine are already long gone. I've glad you've finally got a touch of spring.
ReplyDeleteI completely forgot to add the photos of the 'Ice Dance' sedge and barberry blooms! You can see them in yesterday's post though.
ReplyDeleteLove that photo of the Muscari. Perfect. Happy bloom day
ReplyDeleteDandelion flowers are under rated, they're actually quite lovely. Plus they make a great tosser for a back and forth game of catch between me and the dog. She pretends to eat them but never really does.
