A quick fix

I don't have time to say much today, which is sometimes how things go in the garden: you don't have time to do very much but need to make it look like you did.

Here's an example: the bed next to the driveway and the front walk, well, it just looks sad.

The solution was simple though:

Replace the struggling Helictotrichon sempervirens (blue oat grass) with a Schizachyrium scoparium 'Blue Heaven'. The blue oat grass was small to start with but then nibbled down by rabbits -- they seem to love all blue grasses around here!

I'm surprised it's come back this much, but I just can't wait for it to get large enough to satisfy, and no guarantee the rabbits won't get it again. I'll baby it in a pot for the summer and see if I can salvage it, but at least the bed looks good again.

Quick and easy fix!

(I already know that nothing eats little bluestem around here, so the new grass is safe.)

  1. Sometimes the best solution is a hasty replacement like what you just did :)
