One-word Wednesday: Jewels
Talinum paniculatum, "Jewels of Opar".

Tiny jewels indeed.

Indeed, ruby beads!
When I was a kid I read just about every book Edgar Rice Burroughs ever wrote, among which were the now-obscure "Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar". I assume that's where the common name for this plant came from, probably originally as a marketing name in a plant catalog. Interesting that the plant name stuck, but the book is practically forgotten. (I'm still wondering about "Love lies bleeding"...)
