So here's a question: what color are these castor bean plants? Obviously they're green, right?
This is the view of my garden as you approach, driving up the street, walking your dog, or just taking a stroll. Nothing makes big leaves more impressive than a little sun-powered backlighting!
Except, they're not green. When seen from the front in sunlight, they're much more purple:
And when it's not sunny at all, they're a deep, somewhat silky dark purple:
Such a wonderful color! Er, colors.
Here's another purple one:
Um, maybe it's red or orange instead?
Again, the sunlight does things to Pennisetum 'Vertigo'. Take away the sunlight, and it's darker and duskier than even the castor beans:
This is what I love about purple plants: you don't have to settle for just one color!
.
I have noticed before until now that purple castor bean oil can look green when viewed from below with direct sun shining on it. I suppose some of the bigger leafed purple acers will be the same.
ReplyDeleteI just love that grass! I don't know what color it is, either. A shade of red? A shade = a color + black, a tint = a color + white...
