Bananas and Oranges

autumn,
bald cypress,
bananas,
color
Both are fruits that you won't be seeing in my garden, but the combination of the Musa basjoo hardy banana leaves and the orange fall colors of the bald cypress Taxodium distichum make this corner of the garden such a happy place on a sunny autumn day!
With a temperature in the mid-80's (29ÂșC) yesterday, it seemed much more like banana weather than autumn, but I'll take every sunny day I can get when the bald cypress starts to change color!
Remember that my basjoo was killed to the ground during last winter, and that everything you see here came from new pups. Amazing.
I love catching glimpses of the orangey-browns through the big, tropical leaves...
The banana alone is quite wonderful right now, an oasis of green as every other leaf starts turning yellow or red or brown:
Whoever planted the bamboo underneath this tree deserves my compliments - such a nice combo! (Patting myself on the back...)
The tree itself is just glorious in the sunlight...
And I'm glad to say that you can actually see this combination from the house:
Well, from the deck and kitchen at least.
The bald cypress leaves will have dropped in a couple of days, so I'm glad I was able to capture this now.
Any compelling autumn combinations in your own garden right now?
.
Loving the contrast, it looks great! Tropical leaves against autumn colour, one of the fun things with exotic gardening in a four season climate!
They do make a lovely contrast!
Nothing in my garden as compelling as this. Nice photos!
Underplanting the cypress with the bamboo was as a great idea and looks really gorgeous! Love the contrast of the lush banana and brilliant cypress. Everything in my garden is a soggy mess as we've had lots of rain and wind.
I've never seen this particular combination before, but it's killer. Love it--and the bananas!
Such a great combination of the deciduous conifer and the lush tropical green! The bamboo is a glorious tall ground cover under the bald cypress. Such nice photos!
