Hello polar vortex! Displaced again, are you? The middle of the country is getting an early taste of what will probably be another harsh winter, and although it made me do a lot of work in a short amount of time, I'm glad to have the cold air come in and take out the mold spores.
Still though, this is a bit too cold, too fast. In St. Louis this morning it was about 22ºF (-5ºC), and it looks like early next week we'll be wishing it were as warm as that, with 15ºF (-9ºC) lows forecast.
The thin layer of ice on the water barrel in the walkway garden formed before I had my birdbath heater in place.
The water is unfrozen now, but a fragment of ice on the lawn is a reminder that cold weather has some advantages too: potential beauty.
The pond hasn't frozen yet -- maybe a little bit of ice -- but with some leaves still remaining on the tree above, I'm unsure whether to remove the netting to get the dead water hyacinths out today, or leave it in place for a few more days and risk having them sink. I'll evaluate once it gets closer to the high temperature for the day...
.
The cross section looks like cut glass! On the positive with the cold weather coming you got relief from hayfever :)
ReplyDeleteBrrrr. 22°F is too cold for me. 15°F is an abomination, LOL.
ReplyDeleteYikes! Too cold but I'm glad you're staying positive about it. We've been in the low 30's with strong winds knocking over trees and stuff. The wind is dying down but the cold temps remain. The arctic can have it's giant cold air mass back thank you!
ReplyDeleteMark/Gaz: If you had to choose between 15ºF winters and a fire every few years, which would it be? :)
ReplyDeleteGerhard: I don't mind 15ºF, just would rather see it in January or February where it belongs!
Peter: How does it sound in the gareenhouse when it's stormy out? A bit scary I imagine.
