I'm dedicated to success with sprouts right now. The first sunflower sprout crop was a bit of a disappointment, as the true leaves came in before the sprouts were big enough. We still ate them though. The second set of sunflower sprouts -- also grown in soil like the first -- were given less light but appear to have the same issue. We're still eating those.
So I've started some pea sprouts, deciding to leave them in the jar rather than growing them in soil. I've had some trouble with the jar method before, but I'm determined to get it right this time. Soon at least.
I've not grown pea sprouts before, so I'm curious to both see what they look like and to taste them.
They're looking good so far...
My favorite thing about growing sprouts in jars is seeing how their volume expands as they grow:
This jar will be overflowing in another day or two, when it's time to start eating!
I think I'll try sunflower seeds in another jar as a comparison. Another problem I've had with the sunflower sprouts is the husks -- they don't all separate from the leaves and they're so woody that you have to pick them out. A bit tedious for me. Let's see what happens in the jar...
.
I think it looks yummy as it is already!
ReplyDeleteSorry the soil method didn't work as well as you'd hoped. Oh well, back to rinsing. Your pea sprouts look great!
