Monday started out rainy and cloudy too, but ended up being a beautiful sunny day, and the early evening sun lit my unidentified clematis too nicely to ignore.
Does anybody have any ideas what type this might be? When I bought it tagless on clearance a couple of years ago the nursery worker thought it might be 'The President', but Internet searches aren't really helping.
It's only about halfway up the trellis but is looking good.
The Clematis 'Jackmanii' is using the entire trellis already though...
...and is looking for more room!
The 'Piilu' on the mailbox is also at the top of the trellis...
...but it's only 4' (1.2m) tall -- just the right size for a mailbox post! Loads of buds on this one this year, which is satisfying because I was concerned that this spot would be too shady for a Clematis.
There will be more happening with the other clematis in the garden in the next week or so it seems, so more coming soon...
.
Whatever it is, it is an elegant Clematis! Funny enough the weather here last week was not so friendly either, with strong winds that fortunately only caused minor damage.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your strong weather. On the bright side, you don't have to water now. Your clematis are looking good. Queen of the flowering vines!
ReplyDelete4" in an hour?!? I tend to forget that the rest of the country is NOT in the throes of a historic drought like we are in California!
ReplyDeleteI've been toying with the idea of adding a big purple blooming clematis to the garden. You're pushing me in that direction.
ReplyDeleteNobody knows what this might be?
ReplyDeleteGerhard: 4" in an hour is crazy, but I'll take it over 4" a year or whatever you're at now for sure.
Loree: does Rooguchi count as a "big purple"? It might be my favorite even though it doesn't have the immediate impact that the big blooms of these do. More photos soon!
