Friday miscellany

I know I've done this recently, but I have to get out into the garden and do some planting before the rain moves in, so just miscellaneous views of things that caught my eye this morning.

Think of this as a little preview of some of what you'd see if you visited my garden this Sunday on the free Sustainable Backyard Tour.

***

Red-whisker clammyweed blooming now. I wonder how it got it's name?

I'm kidding of course -- it's quite obvious!

Nice color combination between the unknown silver perennial and the purple perilla:

What is that plant?

Feverfew is everywhere...

...creating big islands of white:

The Agastache foeniculum (or is it Agastache rugosum -- or a cross between the two?) is taller than ever -- at least 4' (1.2m) tall and will start blooming soon:

In the hellstrip the Pleioblastus shibuyanus 'Tsuboi' bamboo has finally spread:

I think I might miss the clumpish look of the last two years, and look how tall it's getting! I'll see what it looks like after leafing out.

Some clary sage volunteered and is in its bloom year (it's a biennial):

Love those flowers! Not so crazy about santolina blooms though:

Not much to see there.

These small blue blooms though...

...are the reason that I let the weedy Commelina erecta grow here.

After no blooms last year due to killing cold, the 'Lady in Red' hydrangea is flowering!

I wish the one in back wasn't producing bluish blooms this year though. Wonder what changed?

The feverfew (I told you it was everywhere!) mixes nicely with the two remaining lavenders in the side garden:

I almost never show you my hostas. Here are a couple of them under the deck:

Also under the deck, my getting fabulous original fern bed:

Maypop vines starting to pick up steam:

And speaking of steam, it's hot and humid in the sun, but the yucca blooms...

...and walking stick bamboo...

...catch the blazing light so well you have to bear it!

To cool off I'll finish in the shady-in-the-morning backyard, where the reed grass rises above monarda...

...hopefully distracting you from the mess of a veggie garden in the background.

I think I've finally found a spot for the ornate courting bench:

And lastly, you get to see all of the pond blooms in one photo!

Now I'm off to do some planting...

Hope you have a great weekend and if you're in the STL area please visit gardens on the Sustainable Backyard Tour! You won't be disappointed.
