Wednesday Vignette: Orange from two sides
My first Wednesday Vignette post -- a meme hosted by Anna at Flutter and Hum -- takes a look at the most vibrant color in my front garden right now: orange!
The interesting thing is that both plants producing orange blooms (Canna 'Tropicanna' and Lion's Tail) are just outside the front door. If you stand in the right place, it's possible to see both of them at the same time!
Probably easier if you just go down the walkway a bit instead of climbing partially into the 40-year-old yew as I did to get the canna photos, but I wanted to see the "other plant's" orange in the background of these shots.
The Lion's Tail (Leonotis leonurus) is pretty boring for most of the summer, but then just at the end of the season it becomes amazing. About 5' (1.5m) tall from a small start in the spring.
I never really plan the orange in my garden -- I usually forget that 'Tropicanna' even does bloom when I plant it -- but this year it worked out perfectly!
I wonder if a pot of nice orange mums wouldn't complete the vignette?
.
Orange orange orange! Love the oranges. Even foliage orange.
I've got find a spot for lion's tail again. I had one that bloomed reliably every year, and then it just died.
Tamara: strange to hear you say that (not!)
Gerhard: they're sold as annuals here, in the herb section too! Can't imagine what they'd do as perennials!
Good oranges!
No! No! No! -not mums. These oranges can carry off the theme all by themselves. Lion's tail in the midwest. I wish I could grow that here.
Great oranges! I say yes to the mums and maybe throwing in some purple asters for a nice clash (oops) contrast. But then I like that sort of thing.
Beautiful vignette...to me only nature gets orange right!
