Wednesday Vignette: Mess!

After losing power for about 20 hours after yesterday's intense storms (crazy winds, torrential rain, hail) things are almost back to normal here, although I'm not sure what normal is now. You've probably noticed that my posts are not as reliable as usual, and I apologize for that.

Today's vignette is brought to you by Anna at Flutter and Hum, and is a mess. Literally, I just took photos of the mess that is my driveway. Springtime plant drag outs (from the basement and garage) are almost complete but nothing has been put into place yet... so it's a battlefield out there!

***

I laugh when more organized gardeners talk about their "pot ghettos", where they just collect a mishmash of potted plants, most of which are still in their nursery pots. I live pot ghetto, especially at this time of year!

I can't even give you the complete list of projects here, but they include pruning my half-dead ribbon bush -- where every other little branch has died, making pruning a tedious task indeed, propping up my flopping bamboo (yes, again!), and finding a place for a couple of packs of shingles left over from last year's roofing job. Maybe I'll just leave them out if those hailstorms are going to be common now...

Still, this mess has it's own type of beauty, like this NOID fig...

...and a dozen pots of Agastache volunteers.

Speaking of a dozen pots (or more), my succulents are acclimating on the mostly-shaded driveway:

Can't wait to move them into the direct sunlight!  What a mess!

I'm not sure that you should be thanking Anna for hosting the Wednesday Vignette meme because who wants to see my mess! I'm hoping that a few more weeks will result in an impressive "after" series of photos, but we'll see.

  2. I haven't even planted my zinnia seeds yet, nor prepared the ground where they will be planted. That storm that came through yesterday really left a lot of leaf/limb debris around and beat the heck out of my baskets of annuals that I don't have placed yet. The plants that I already had planted were beat down from the downpour and hail. Sorry you lost electric. Ours flickered seriously, but stayed on. I'm hoping things are better here in the St.Louis area weatherwise tonight. I hope all of the little snakelets got to high ground before the deluge.

  3. 20 hours!!! Yikes - I'm glad that you, yours, and your plants were safe. I actually thought exactly what Teri said; I'm glad I'm not the only one. My yard is an absolute yard sale - there is stuff everywhere! I'm eternally grateful when I get to spend even half a day out there - the clean-up progress is painstakingly slow. I'm dying for the day when I can invite friends for a nice chat in my garden, but at the rate I'm going, that day is years into the future. Here's to a productive summer, Alan!

  5. There seem to be pathways through things so you're ahead of me! Haven't started moving things out from the greenhouse and human house yet but the time is nigh. Trouble is, I have to get rid of all the potted stuff that was spending a winter vacation in the spots where the pots from the greenhouse will go. So much to do in spring!
