In a vase on Monday (on Tuesday)

As noted in my last post I got to spend as much time as I wanted in the garden yesterday, which ended up being five hours or so. Weeding, planting, pruning -- that last one reminded me that it's time again for that fun meme "In a Vase on Monday".

So I salvaged a few of the fresh but wayward bamboo culms that were just cut and built a vase around them. Which I'm posting a day late, again.

I can only bring myself to use plants that are in abundance, so I chose the first two things I thought of: northern sea oats (Chasmanthium latifolium) and mint.

The end result was too monochromatic for my tastes, although the composition was what I was going for: simple.

So I yanked out the mint and went for another plant with more visual punch that I also have in abundance:

Persicaria 'Painter's Palette' works so much better here I think...

...although it does not smell as good as the mint did!

Thanks to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for hosting this meme. One of these weeks I'll actually have it ready on Monday...

  1. Love this! (both versions, although the second is my favorite) I used to think Persicaria 'Painter's Palette' was too busy for my garden but I'm warming to it.
