Even though most plants are ahead of schedule this year due to our early warm weather here in St. Louis, a few of my plants have emerged late.
The cannas and colocasia have all been slow to show themselves this year.
Of course it's through no fault of their own -- they were stored in tubs in my garage all winter, and I only just remembered to bring them outdoors yesterday.
Obviously they've been growing for at least a week already, but being in total darkness they just thought they were underground still.
Let's not tell them that I'm the reason they've been so confused, wondering where the sunlight was.
I'm pretty sure that plants that haven't greened up yet can go straight into sunlight, but we'll see what happens. I've got so many of these to sort and plant... but that will have to wait a bit since the ground is so wet and muddy now. Is it ever going to dry up?
I'm sure these plants were thinking "will we ever see the sun again?" the other day too.
.
Curious looking aren't they whilst still chlorotic? Still a good head start though.
ReplyDeleteI'll trade you some of our sunny dry weather for some of your rain. Can you believe you're hearing that from someone in the soggy Pacific Northwest?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder that I had to get the canna bulbs from on top of the freezer in the basement! I guess because they were in a cooler area they hadn't sprouted as much as yours.
