Taller

When all goes well, bamboo gets taller each year. In my climate (St. Louis) it's winter that is usually the deciding factor on what "went well" (although summer rainfall is a factor too).

Last winter was so mild the bamboo are all upsizing this year. The Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Aureocaulis' next to the driveway looks like it will add a couple of feet in height.

That's fine by me, although the tallest culms are usually the thickest, and these are all deep in the center of the plant where I can't see them.

One of my most impressive plants gets even more so this year it seems. I'm happy!


The straight Phyllostachys aureosulcata ("Yellow Groove" bamboo) planted next to the deck looks to be putting on even more height this year, maybe another 3' (0.9m) or more:

Which is a bit of a worry, because my satellite dish points at the sky directly above it. Will they need to come out and move my dish again when these leaf out?

Bigger (and taller) is still better!
