I've seen a woodchuck on my driveway the last few days, walking around as if he didn't have a worry in the world. He even turned over my trashcan full of prunings to see if anything good was to be found in there. His goal is the mulberry pile on the driveway I think, created when I sweep up.
Woodchucks are always hungry though, regardless of how many berries they eat, and this one has found my wild ginger.
At least he left a single leaf so I can remember that there was once a nice plant here:
This combo does not look the same now, does it?
This is it from a few weeks back:
The thing is, I'm not really too mad. Woodchucks always make me smile, especially when I see them run. Hilarious!
Gotta laugh, right?

Laughing makes it all better. Laughing all the way to the kitchen...http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kerry-trueman/if-you-cant-beat-em-eat-e_b_105579.html
ReplyDeleteI had to Google woodchuck because I had never seen one. They're very cute--like a fat prairie dog.
ReplyDeleteOh your poor wild ginger. I hope it leafs out again. Fresh mulberries and wild ginger leaves, isn't he/she the little gourmet groundhog. I find woodchucks to be cute critters. I've never seen one run, but I'm pretty certain it could outrun me.
ReplyDeletePeter: my neighbor loves to tell the story of how he used to shoot and eat woodchucks all the time growing up. I'll just coexist with them I think.
ReplyDeleteGerhard: I admit they are cute. They just eat too much (more than deer actually).
Susie: At least it stayed away from the bamboo shoots this year.
