As you probably know I spend a lot of time in the workshop now, and I've had several ideas for projects for my own garden this summer. I haven't had much time for them until now, so I got started on the simplest of them last week.
Having to pound a stake (metal electrical conduit) into the ground to help hold this Hibiscus lasiocarpos upright. The stake couldn't be more visible, and it certainly isn't attractive. What was my fix?
A wooden cube!
Scrap cedar became a garden ornament:
A larger scrap now sits upon the cement test cylinder that was previously in the fish barrel:
Luckily I didn't move that back to the garage. Lazy gardening pays off again!
I added a third to this pole that was holding up the Artemesia ludoviciana last year:
I've tried pulling that pole out of the ground but it's stuck there. Now I don't want to pull it out!
Deck stain/sealer gives them some extra color and protection:
Here's the whole view:
I may end up adding a few more of these and possibly continuing the theme around the front garden.
What do you think?
.
I like them. They add an interesting and unexpected shape to the garden. I'd go with more than one color blending them in, and even try other shapes.
ReplyDeleteI think they're perfect for your garden!
ReplyDeleteThese are a swell way to jazz up your plant stakes!
ReplyDeleteYou could make money selling these, my friend!
ReplyDeleteClever! Suddenly the rod becomes art!
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing post on garden. I simply want to thank to talk about your work about Little cubes as well as your blog or website, this is a Chris Symons straightforward yet useful.
ReplyDeleteOh, I like them! Plus, they have the added bonus that the stake won't take out your eye if you ever bent down too far, and didn't see it. Happened to my mom once. I've been acutely aware of the possibility ever since. Much nicer with cubes!
