Castor Bean: a final look

I've been showing you my castor bean plants a lot in the last few months, with good reason -- they're really amazing this year! Today we'll have one final look at these, as I don't see them growing much more.

I've never had this wall of foliage at deck level before, and I have to say that I really love it!

I had planned on including a photo of the tape measure, but that proved to be an impossible shot to capture...

...but I think you'll agree that with these plants topping out at 8' (2.4m) above the surface of the deck, they're impressive!

That height is even more incredible if you know that the from the raised bed to the deck surface is another 7.5' (2.3m) -- which makes the total height of these plants 15.5' (4.7m)!

I'll write that out longhand: fifteen and a half feet tall!

Beautiful and eye-catching from any viewpoint:

I thought I might have too many castor bean plants this year,
but it worked out great I think!

I don't show this angle too often, but it's so nice this year!

They even look great from underneath, where the leaves seem more green/brown than purple:

I'm really going to miss these once they're gone -- the first sub-freezing night will zap them! (Although I have no idea when that will occur... not any time soon)

Note: I've finally gotten my stuff together and have posts lined up for every day this week. So no more of this one or two posts a week laziness. :)

  2. Those are incredible! I just pulled out the last of my sunflowers and was amazed at how much plant could grow from one little seed... your castor beans beat my sunflowers by double!

  5. Terrific pictures of the underside of the leafs. Amazing growth of these plants. What makes me even more envious are the two lovely chairs on the deck, which I know have been transformed by your talented hands. They look very good!
