Looking up, things are?

I've been having trouble coming up with post topics lately. I don't want to repeat myself too much, so showing you the bamboo or the castor beans or the bananas or the vines, well, it just doesn't seem right.

Then I thought: why not show you all of them from a different perspective, one that you might get if you were standing here with me? So today's photos are all taken looking straight up! (Or pretty much so.)

***

The bananas were my first subject. If this photo has your brain trying to figure out what's going on here, why those leaves look the way they do, remember this is what you'd see if you looked straight up:

Moving to the bald cypress, which I think will be touching the bananas soon:

It's not quite in top form yet, but the color is starting to turn.

How about some bamboo?

And those castor beans just form a big canopy...

...I think they look better from above.

More bamboo:

And those elephant ears that are just showing along the left edge of that last image...

...are at least 7' (2m) tall -- big even if you don't hold the camera down low.

More bamboo and the contorted pine:

And when you're back by the pond it's best to look up, not at the mess below:

Finally, the maypop vines, gone crazy as I hoped they would:

So that's a different way of looking at my garden right now.

I wonder what I can do next?

  1. I love taking photos of different views on the garden. Looking for unusual patterns or textures is fun. Also, mid-winter I can imagine myself standing in my garden, looking from all different angles. I don't have as much height as you do, though!

  2. Its that time of year where a photo of your wife's pies would be appropriate. You could pose them in the garden for a quick picture. :)

  3. Great perspective! But what you really need is a drone so you can do aerial shots!

  4. Love this! If you looked up right now in my garden (for the last 6 days actually) all you'd see are raindrops on the lens. Gawd it's getting old!!!

  5. Great idea! I never get tired of looking at your garden and this new perspective enhances the experience.

  6. I've always like the view from this angle; the contrast of green and blue sky never fails to cheer me up, even thought it makes me a little dizzy :-)
