Yesterday I wondered about apple storage, today it's about a plant ID. In downtown St. Louis there are a couple of old churches that we pass while walking to the hockey arena. Both have quite nice little gardens, and this one contains an interesting Alocasia:
Roses, canna, butterfly bushes and more, but this is the plant that caught my eye.
Here's another look:
Anybody know what cultivar this is? The ruffled edges are so pronounced, unlike the typical Alocasia which they also grow here:
Now that I see both of them together, I'm not sure that I like the ruffled version as much as the smooth one. Still, it's an impressive specimen. I wonder where they store them over the winter?
.
Pretty! My guess is Alocasia portodora http://www.finegardening.com/portodora-elephants-ear-alocasia-portodora
ReplyDeleteThat's not Colocasia esculenta? Taro plant? People used to grow them here, back when there was water. Been a long while since I've seen one in person.
