A quick look at some siblings of the wild variety in my garden right now.
Starting with chipmunks. I know what you're thinking. You're thinking "Hey, there's only one chipmunk in this photo!" You have a good point, but this is just a teaser.
That first photo was the mom I think. This one shows the kids...
...shoot, that's only one of them again. Those little 'munks wouldn't stay still!
I did get at least one decent shot though:
They're about 2/3 the size of an adult, so not tiny. Still more cute than a grown-up chipmunk don't you think?
Just a few feet away across the walkway...
...is the water barrel that contains the two goldfish. They're a bit difficult to see -- can you spot them?
I doubt that they're actually related, but since they've been living together in this space for several years, I like to think of them as brothers or sisters. Actually, they could be related now that I think of it, as I believe they came from the pond after the population exploded that one year.
Sharing this space temporarily are some toad tadpoles:
I put them up here when there were hundreds of them in the pond. Do I know for certain that they're siblings? Not positively, but I'd say there's a good chance at least some of these came from the same parents.
That's it for modern day garden siblings, but if you haven't had enough let's jump back to 2007...
...when a trio of orphaned raccoon babies...
...would spend the day high up in the neighbor's tree and visit us daily for food and water. I can't believe I've never posted about this before (even though it was 3 years before I started the blog). It was quite a summer!
.
Ugh. Chipmunks. The cute little garden terrors. And raccoons are on my Most Wanted list right now, too.
ReplyDeleteDo your fish live in your water barrel year round?
Cute babies! The critters that our gardens attract are as much fun as the plants sometimes! Not when the raccoons eat the fish or the squirrels eat the tulip bulbs but mostly.
ReplyDeleteBaby chipmunks are the cutest! Nice photos
ReplyDeleteThey are cute as long as they are in someone else's yard. I'll be glad to bring you some more if you want. I've got plenty.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why chipmunks are in some parts of St. Louis County, and not others. I live nearer the airport than you do and I have never seen any chipmunks in this area. I've seen possums, raccoons, skunks, groundhogs, foxes, coyotes, of course squirrels, and a deer in our neighborhood, but never any chipmunks. I would love to have chipmunks around here. Those baby munks in your yard are so cute.
ReplyDeleteChipmunks rate high on the cute meter. So do baby raccoons: I love that photo of them up in the tree. At least in the pictures they seem harmless.
