It's baby raccoon season

No, I haven't seen a baby raccoon (yet) this year. How then do I know it's time for them to start venturing out and exploring the neighborhood?

The first clue was my trash can being covered by muddy little footprints this morning.

Okay, but where did the mud come from?

Oh.

Of course. Sigh.

At least it wasn't a freshly planted pot. (They love the smell of that Milorganite!)

So how exactly did they get up onto the trash container?

Oh. A little ladder and a step up onto the smaller garbage can. I did not notice that I'd placed these things this way.

I suspect I'll start seeing the smooth, round river rocks pulled out of pots now too...

  1. Looks Like you have 3 choices:
    1) Live with them,(wouldn't be my choice).
    2) Stop using Milorganite.
    3) Borrow my Havaheart trap and move them out to the country.

  2. They can be destructive and vicious little critters but they sure are cute.

  3. Jim: option 4 is the best one: put some Milorganite out on the driveway in a little pile so they can discover what it is exactly. Seems to work.

  4. Deer and Raccoons?!? Yikes.

Raccoons are in the neighborhood and investigate my garden from time to time but never find anything of interest to destroy (lucky stars thanked). Kris P.'s garden they plague. I hope they don't do too much damage in your garden--or that the cute outweighs the chaos.

  5. We have to bungee cord the garbage can lids. Or wake up to the remains of a trash party!
