Although the campground host said that we chose the "worst" site, I think it was pretty great!
We had timed our trip perfectly for this campground, just before the start of hunting season and Memorial Day weekend, so the place was almost empty. As proof of this, here's the panoramic view:
There's only one other camper visible, and only a couple of others in the general area. Very nice and quiet!
Besides being quiet and remote, this campground is close to the White River (North Fork of course).
It's just across the road, although access is difficult there. The host said that there were two nice access points a little way down the road.
We walked to the first one without really intending too -- a very nice walk...
...with lots of late summer flowers...
...views of the river...
...and after reaching the access point we climbed down next to the water.
This was a really beautiful and relaxing spot, although the water level rose measurably while we were sitting there -- there were storms in the area and this is clearly the main valley.
I can't help photographing gnarled wood!
After visiting the river we went back to the campsite. Here's the opposite view of our temporary "home" (looking north -- that's our RV):
There were aspen groves surrounding the campground too:

Such a nice, relaxing place! Cooler weather than the previous night's campground, but the night sky was just as dark. So many stars! We saw a few meteors and many satellites. (Watching for satellites is one of our favorite stargazing activities.)
Two nights here meant that we had a much more relaxed attitude about everything. The darn campfire was not cooperating, but we eventually got our dinner cooked. The next morning's breakfast too. (The last campfire breakfast that I had before this was on a Webelos camping outing years and years and years ago.)
What did we do the next day? Got out the bikes and went back to the river of course!
.
Wow! I bet those aspens are magical in the fall.
ReplyDeleteWhat a relaxing and gorgeous place. So, who was tending the pie shop while you were on vacation?
ReplyDeleteGerhard: it's probably full autumn there right now... if it's not snowing already :)
ReplyDeletePeter: The pie shop was closed. This is why we could only be gone a week and had to cram so much driving into the trip. :\
What a beautiful place. Enjoying the stars, meteors, and satellites must have been very cool! Not many stars visible in coastal SoCal.
