I thought these tadpoles looked different, not the American Toad tadpoles that I'm used to seeing.

The water quality is quite good now that the raccoon guard has been in place for a couple of weeks:
Which means that the plants are undamaged...
...and I can see the tadpoles doing their thing -- which is eat mainly.
And grow legs.
Yep, definitely not the little toadlings to which I am accustomed. So what are they?
Tree frogs!
Look at its cool little hand -- good thing it has plenty of grip because there's no other way to get out of there besides climbing!
This settles it: I'm going to put this tub out every year! (The fish eat all of the frog eggs and tadpoles, so the tree frogs need a fishless water feature in which to spawn.)
.
Tree frogs are adorable! Glad you're going to give them a special fishless place to spawn next year. What a fun surprise.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Tree frogs are so neat! Their croak is quite charming.
ReplyDeleteI am so stinkin jealous!
ReplyDeleteVery cool.
ReplyDeleteSo they'll climb out of the water and find a tree to climb?
Peter: Will the frogs find it though? We will see.
ReplyDeleteSalty: I love hearing tree frogs!
Loree: This is one of the best garden surprises of 2018 for me!
Chav: They'll climb something! Probably bamboo as that's closer than any tree.
