cactus
My totem pole cactus (Lophocereus schottii) is doing great! Well, fine at least. It didn't put on much growth last year...
...but it seems to be healthy. It might need a little more fertilizer, and maybe a few hours more sun a day? I don't know if I have a better spot than the deck stairs though.

I'm a little concerned that the middle section is so thin compared to the top...
...but otherwise I'm quite happy with it!
Not much growth going on this year either as far as I can tell:
But wait! What's that?
It's growing an arm!
Hmmm. I don't know if I really want it to have an arm, as I like the solitary column look.
I don't really have much choice though, do I?
I know I should call it an "arm" because it already looks like a little fist:
(Touch all of your fingertips and thumb tip together and compare!)
You think I was worried about the thin middle section before? Wait until it's supporting an arm too!
.
Mine is doing the same thing, two of them.
Sure it's not a flower? Looks like it has some color in it.
Jim: the flower buds are much smaller and thinner than this, so quite certain it's an arm. The new growth is often colored like this.
