Mailbox Spiders

I've been so busy lately, it's been difficult to even get out into the garden, let alone post about it. Once in a while though something appears to me, visible from the office window, and I need to react.

That was the case a week ago when the early evening sunlight highlighted this mailbox web for me.

***

Sure it's not the prettiest web, but it still fascinates me!

Lots of webby stuff happening in that sad clematis on the mailbox post. I didn't have time to poke around (nor the desire to be honest).

This spotted orbweaver is not having much luck!

It's a beauty though, if you like that sort of thing. (Neoscona crucifera)

My wife did not know about this one, getting the mail in the dark most days recently.

She did know about the one inside the mailbox though...

...which is why the flashlight comes out before the mail is grabbed!

(And the mail is often first thrown onto the ground before being carried to the house!)

  1. It's definitely spider season! I also love seeing their webs lit beautifully or spangled with raindrops. So, you don't like bringing spiders inside with your mail?

  2. And I can see your neighbors wondering "why do they always throw the mail on the ground?"...

  3. Peter: in the workshop I get covered with tiny, barely visible baby spiders, so I do avoid bringing bigger ones inside when possible.

Loree: I think the neighbors stopped wondering about us long ago!

  4. I love spiders, but not too close and definetly not on me. I do love that you deal with the inconvenience of the spider in the mailbox rather than killing it.

  5. I normally find myself walking right through their webs that are strung across from one tree to another down the path.
